Who We Serve
Birthday Dreams provides a dream birthday to homeless children ages 1 to 18 years.
In 2018 over 40,000 school age children were homeless in Washington State. Of those, only 13% were living in shelters*. The rest are living on the street, in cars,
couch surfing with friends or family, and in group foster homes.
For a child experiencing homelessness, something as simple as a birthday party can seem miles out of reach. These children live under a blanket of stress, worry, depression,
and sacrifice. On a daily basis, they go without.
These children are who we serve.
The child’s information is sent to us through children’s advocates, caseworkers and counselors through various forms of shelters and other programs such as McKinney-Vento Act and local food banks.
We partner with over 80 shelters in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Some hold hosted group parties where our volunteers throw the party and some hold non-hosted group parties. The majority
of the children receive a Birthday-in-a-Box.
